This ancient Egyptian limestone bust shows signs of both preservation and decay. The sculpture features intricate details of traditional royal regalia - a tall cylindrical crown with a cobra emblem, and a broad collar necklace with multiple rows of beading. The facial features are finely carved with almond-shaped eyes, full lips, and a straight, refined nose. While the upper portion remains remarkably intact, showing smooth, polished surfaces, the lower section appears deliberately rough and unfinished, with exposed raw stone creating a striking contrast. This juxtaposition of pristine craftsmanship against weathered material seems to directly address the artwork's title, questioning the relationship between preservation, deterioration, and worth. The piece is displayed on a dark pedestal against a modern concrete wall dotted with small holes.
